In May 1998, Leslie Ann Nilsson launched Sage American Kitchen, a take-out and catering operation located on Long Island. From day one the mission statement has been the same: "to prepare both traditional and contemporary American food, using the freshest naturally-grown produce, meat and poultry.(seeking) out small, family-run farms and purveyors, to bring you food full of authentic flavors.

About ten years ago, Nilsson also established Sage Events, one of the major players on New York's special events and wedding planning scene. With thousands of events under her direction, featuring local and artisan foods, Ms. Nilsson's Sage Events has become the "eco-eating" choice for many New Yorkers.
