HEALTHY NAILS
What to look for
Use DBP-free, formaldehyde-free, and toluene-free polishes and soy-based
removers. Commercial brands, like Sally Hansen and OPI, have even removed
these toxins from some of their products.
Watch out
Conventional polishes may be even more damaging than you think.
The noxious fumes are poisonous and have been linked to major health problems.
Solvents
Chemical solvents, namely acetates, are the major ingredient in nail polish
(60-70%). These nail polishes…explosive. Plus they damage nails, making them
yellow, brittle, and weak.
Bonuses of Non-toxic Polish
Non-toxic polish does not chip as much and lasts much longer than regular
polish (2-3 weeks).
Nutrition
Foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, squash, sweet potatoes) and calcium
(skim milk, yogurt, almonds, broccoli) help keep your nails strong.
DIY Soak
Mix water, a few drops of lemon essential oil, and some flower petals
(for effect) in a bowl and ta-da, the perfect hand soak! It will leave
your hands and cuticles soft and smelling divine.
